Tres Palmas was picking up the long period swell very well and offering several friendly giants to those who equipped to charge. Beautiful form and long lines made this swell event memorable. Props to all the dudes charging it out there.

Swell of the Season Barrel Fest – Part 1 https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/puerto-rico-surf-galleries/swell-of-the-season-barrel-fest-part-1/ Mon, 16 Apr 2018 22:22:44 +0000 https://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=15516 The swell of the season got a very special spot working better than I’ve seen in the past 8 or 10 years. The lighting was perfect, the crowd actually wasn’t the bad, the barrels were wide open and it was basically an entire day of perfect barrels. This will be the first part of a few galleries that have been backlogged for a while. We shot so many photos during this swell event it has been hard to keep up with it. A very special thanks goes to one of Rincon Surf Report’s photographers, Jonathan Rodriguez. He shot the entire afternoon session at this spot and captured some incredible pics! Jonathan is a super cool dude with a heart of gold and a great family friend of ours. He needs your help:

Help Jonathan Beat Liver Cancer!

It broke my heart to hear that Jonathan was diagnosed with cancer again. He has always been an awesome friend. He and his wife are super positive, energetic, and donate a large part of their time in volunteer work. If you’ve met Jonathan at the beach while he’s shooting you probably understand that he’s a good dude. If you’ve never met him, take my word for it! Bonus Shots: Evening Tow-In Tres Palmas https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/puerto-rico-surf-galleries/bonus-shots-evening-tow-in-tres-palmas/ Tue, 06 Mar 2018 01:52:58 +0000 https://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=15215 Late afternoon and into the evening some very brave and skilled surfers got some really huge rides at Tres Palmas. The conditions were still not ideal with a lot of extra movement in the water and down the face. Nonetheless these chargers went for it – even going so extreme as to go for a left when the opportunity presented itself. The winds were finally starting to blow offshore and hopefully they will continue to groom the swell overnight. These were some of the biggest I’ve ever seen in my life in person.

Bonus Shots: March 1, 2018 https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/puerto-rico-surf-galleries/bonus-shots-march-1-2018/ Fri, 02 Mar 2018 00:24:58 +0000 https://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=15118 This morning was amazing! The waves were just perfect. This will be the start of one of the best runs of swell we’ve had so far in 2018. February was terrible. Just terrible. The earth is making up for lost time by throwing a double down of long period swell at us over the next week. I’m really looking forward to surfing a lot and taking a lot of pictures. This is March 1st, 2018.

Bonus Shots: Jan 8, 2018 https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/puerto-rico-surf-galleries/bonus-shots-jan-8-2018/ Mon, 08 Jan 2018 20:01:37 +0000 https://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=14647 Before the wind turned on there was still some decent swell still out there this morning. The final hours of the tide push saw the best sets. After that last push the tide topped out, the swell dropped, and the wind blew on shore. The conditions deteriorated and the magic was gone. Granted, it wasn’t the easiest session this morning and the best waves were found in odd locations at times instead of the usual spots along the reef. However, if you stayed busy and kept paddling you had many chances to get up and riding. Here’s some bonus shots from what looked like a beautiful morning from the beach.

Bonus Shots: First Cold-Front Swell 2017 Winter Season https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/puerto-rico-surf-galleries/bonus-shots-first-cold-front-swell-2017-winter-season/ Sat, 09 Dec 2017 18:52:19 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=14359 We finally have some sizeable surf showing up in Rincon. The wind was completely dead to light offshore and the swell was pumping. Once the high-tide maxed out the waits between sets became longer and more lulls would pass. For the most part, the morning was firing. And of course Leif was flying through the air as per usual. Most of the sets were A-Frames offering a walled up left and right and just enough time to get to your feet before getting pitched. What an awesome morning! Let the 2017/2018 Winter Season begin!

Hurricane Irma Surf Gallery https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/puerto-rico-surf-galleries/hurricane-irma-surf-gallery/ Tue, 12 Sep 2017 01:36:55 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=13711 Hurricane Irma wasn’t as bad as she could have been. She kept far enough away so that the entire island wasn’t completely destroyed. Had she made landfall things would have been catastrophic. I didn’t really surf much during the event because it was time for me to be a responsible adult – i had a family and close friends to help and keep safe. I love them more than surfing. I did happen to have a very short session one morning and took some shots.

Bonus Shots: Mar 25, 2017 https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/puerto-rico-surf-galleries/bonus-shots-mar-25-2017/ Sat, 25 Mar 2017 16:26:06 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=12593 The swell came in bigger than a lot of people expected, but the real surprise was the hard south winds all night. Up until the night before, all of the models were calling for hard NE winds in the 20 to 30 mph range. The hard south winds meant that only the north facing beaches were clean. The north facing beaches received a direct hit of NNW swell and the result was gigantic surf with some crazy sets! Here’s some bonus shots from north facing spots. One in particular was a perfect left barrel with absolutely no one around. I wish I had pro level skill. As a goofy footer I would have had so many loooooong barrel rides. They were open and didn’t just close out.
