Rincon Paddle Boards Staff Completes Lifeguard Training.

Long before it was a legal requirement for paddleboard and surfing instructors, Rincon Paddle Boards (RPB) staff have been well trained in water safety, lifesaving techniques, CPR and have been certified lifeguards from multiple recognized agencies including the USLA and American Redcross. This past May of 2019, the RPB staff renewed certification as lifeguards, waterfront rescue, and the latest CPR and First Aid certifications. Maintaining those credentials is more than just having an updated piece of paper. Lifesaving is serious and everyone trained HARD to go above and beyond what was required. The course was very physically strenuous and as real to life as possible. Of course, the best accidents are the ones that never happen. Prevention is key, but accidents still happen. This is why in addition to the life-guarding techniques in themselves, contingency plans are always already planned out ahead of time by Rincon Paddle Board Staff before beginning any tours or surf lessons. Know that you are in well trained and capable hands when you choose Rincon Paddleboards to have fun out in the water here in beautiful Rincon, Puerto Rico. Additional info here…

A full spectrum curriculum for ocean safety!

Extended training at the UPR with Ocean Rescue Caribbean Academy and CARICOOS.
The training program was very extensive and included some special extended training. The Ocean Rescue Caribbean Academy (ORCA), with the collaboration of Sea Grant Puerto Rico and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM), offered a training course to local lifeguards to prepare them to ensure the life of those that entertain themselves at the beaches in Puerto Rico, particularly during summer season (high season for locals). Sunset Paddle Tours and More! https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/sunset-paddle-tours-and-more/ Mon, 10 Dec 2018 01:59:25 +0000 https://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=16342
Rincon is well known for breathe taking sunsets. At the end of every day, the sky becomes a work of art with a variety of colors and glows across the clouds and resulting reflection across the ocean. You can now safely paddle out and experience these beautiful sunsets from an awesome perspective – out on the water on a Paddle Board. Rincon Paddleboards is now offering sunset tours with options to meet the needs of clients of all comfort levels.

Sunset Paddle Tour
Paddle out and tour the Tres Palmas marine reserve near sundown, watch the sun go down, and make it back just before it gets too dark to see.

Sunset Paddle with LED Night Tour
Paddle out into the sunset over the pristine marine reserve into nightfall and then paddle around with multi-colored LED lights on your return. The reef glows in multi-color beneath your board with an amazing clarity. The visibility is often excellent and makes for an unforgettable experience.

Full Night Tour
Sunset paddle across clear and calm waters of the Tres Palmas marine reserve. After the sun goes down, the reef is illuminated by the LED attached to each board. After a rest and some water preparations are made for the night dive. The boards provide abundant illumination and the snorkeling resembles somewhat of an underwater space exploration. It’s awesome! Next, when time and conditions permit, enjoy some star gazing out in the water on top of your board while you dry off and get ready to paddle back.

The damage done to Rincon by Hurricane Maria was very severe. However, there is one simple truth: you can’t stop the awesome! After a lot of hard work to stabilize Rincon and get everything accessible again, everyone could focus getting Rincon ready for the coming season. Much of the economy in Rincon and Puerto Rico in general depends heavily on Tourism. People from all over the world love escaping to this beautiful island to enjoy a unique tranquility and peaceful ambiance, as well as take advantage of the natural thrills out in the ocean. Rincon really is an awesome place and no Hurricane can rob it of its beauty for long. After removal of fallen trees and debris, and then more trees and debris, and then a few more trees and debris several Rincon businesses could start rebuilding again. Rincon Paddleboards was left with a fairly daunting challenge – the beach was gone. For a business setup and run from the shoreline of the beach, you can see how this would be a large obstacle. However, if you know Damanio and Chikako (owners of Rincon Paddleboards) then you understand that this wasn’t going to stop them. With enough hard work and ingenuity just about anything is possible.

Rincon Paddleboards rebuilding after Hurricane Maria. They rebuilt the beach. Literally, they put the sand back up by the shoreline, the nearby coastal areas, replanted and replaced trees that had fallen, reinforced the barren rootballs of surviving trees that somehow still stood upright, and took advantage of the piles of dirt/mud left from nearby river flooding in the field of the premises and replaced what Maria washed away near the ocean. This was a lot of work and it all started with shovels and wheel barrows until heavy machinery became available again. After a lot of hard work, soon the island started to grow back stronger and continued to naturally add to the beach. New tides, currents, and swells would help add sand and leave it sticking to the new chunk of beach at Rincon Paddleboards. The reefs are still alive and the fish continue to thrive in the marine reserve of Tres Palmas. In many areas nature has sprouted back so heavily that it’s hard to tell anything ever happened! Basically, Rincon Paddleboards is back and ready for business! Come on down, give our economy a much needed boost, and have the time of your life enjoying their SUP Tours, Night tours, and Surf Lessons. Rincon Paddleboards is ready for you!

No More Plastic Shopping Bags for Rincon! https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/rincon-surf-news/no-more-plastic-shopping-bags-for-rincon/ Tue, 30 Sep 2014 18:25:33 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=646 Proyecto Verde, Rincon, Puerto Rico

Rincon has made it official. Municipal Ordinance 6 prohibits plastic shopping bags. If you read Spanish, you can read the specifics on Ordenza Num. 6 here. Seems like they’re using up the rest of what they have at Econo, but besides that no one is working with plastic shopping bags anymore. At all grocery stores you will have to bring your own reusable bags or pay 15 cents a paper bag.

Rincon is the first and only municipality in Puerto Rico to adopt this ban on the plastic bags and has even made some state-side news reports. If you’re going to visit this season you might want to bring your re-usable grocery bags with you.
