Tropical Depression Fifteen – Possible Surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

It’s finally happening! We have a storm forming right in our swell window for NW angle swell. The storm is forecast to have no land interaction which is good. The only bad news is that the storm has a short window of opportunity to strengthen before wind shear tears it to bits. My only hope is that we can see some strong extratropical action form once it dissipates so that we continue to see waves generated. As it is right now I’m already seeing some shorter period NW swell on the Bahamas buoy so tomorrow we might wake up to some waist high lines. If not in the morning, at least by the afternoon incoming tide. Depending on the continued formation and track of TD Fifteen we might see some smaller but fun waves linger on through the week. Let’s see what happens. We will be updating very regularly this week. Keep checking back and follow our Instagram if you don’t already. @RinconSurfReport

Possible storm in our swell window means possible surf for Rincon.

So far this summer has gone a little something like this: “We might get waves… sorry guys we didn’t get waves. We might get waves again… sorry guys the storm is going to hit us instead. We might get waves… sorry guys just more covid and no waves.” And here we are again with a beautiful opportunity setting up. Will we all be too jaded to pay attention to what this next possible wave generator does? Yeah, probably. Here’s what’s going on though.

We have a surface low off of the southeastern US coastline that has a decent probability of forming into a tropical depression or tropical storm soon. If that low does start to amplify and swoop out a bit more we’re looking at some tropical swell. If it moves too far away first, gets absorbed into the weak front already above it, and proceeds to amplify closer to Europe we get the big skunk and everyone on the other side of the Atlantic will surf their brains out. PR hasn’t had the magic working for it lately so I’m inclined to go with the scenario where we stay flat and everyone else surfs. But just in case I’m wrong I will leave the satellite image loops running in my browser and check on them constantly over the next few days. In the short term we stay small to flat.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Aug 22, 2020 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-aug-22-2020/ Sun, 23 Aug 2020 00:08:05 +0000 https://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=18715 It's going to be one of those summers - no surf in Rincon, Puerto Rico.

It’s just one of those summers.

At the last second, Tropical Storm Laura took a completely different path and left us still sitting under a giant summer flatspel. Some north coast spots on the island had some good waves today, but not much here in Rincon. Here’s what will probably play out over the next few days. Some sideways bump might roll in at the most exposed Rincon spots tomorrow. Don’t have any high expectations. This is a very weak and disorganized storm. As the new week starts we will stay pretty small to flat. Whatever happens with the potential super storm in the Gulf of Mexico and the weather system that is supposed to absorb it will determine if we get some decent waves for the later part of next week. We still have something to hope for, but so far this has been one crazy summer to say the least!

Tropical Storm Laura About to Hit

What is with this tropical season? We keep getting skunked hard. We get the bad weather but no good surf. Tropical Storm Laura is going to hit tomorrow and give us some nasty weather and crappy waves. A lot of debri washed into the ocean with the last storm and I imagine that this storm will do the same if we see the same flooding. Stay safe everyone. I also don’t the pattern we’re seeing. Obviously, everyone wants powerful hurricanes out in the middle of the ocean with no land impact. Everyone wins in that situation. That is not happening. The steering currents this year are throwing storms right at us. There is a chance of some decent surf headed our way by Wednesday of next week, but it all depends on what happens this weekend. If all the storms get into one big system we could see beaches light up for the first time in a long time. Some models have actually spit out this scenario so it’s not impossible. Let’s see what happens.
