I know I sound like a broken record, but go north if you want to surf.

Rincon is going to stay small to flat for the foreseeable future. Most pulses that show up on the beach will be perfect for surf lessons or longboard, but nothing extreme is on the radar. Meanwhile, every morning the north coast of the island has been super fun! I know it doesn’t work with everyone’s schedule to drive up there every day, but it’s good to have it as an option if your stoke is low and you really need to surf. In another month, there won’t be anything up there either so enjoy the setup while it lasts.

Tropics? Anything there?

The official forecasts from the big dogs are for a super quiet 2015 Hurricane Season. Personally, I think we’ll see a more active season than last year, but that’s not saying much. Our main swell window is already on lockdown, so tropical swell will be hard to make. The flows we’re seeing now and that may continue through the summer aren’t conducive to wave making storms for Puerto Rico. But once again, personally I have a hunch that we’ll do better than last year.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – May 8, 2015 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-may-8-2015/ Sat, 09 May 2015 03:15:17 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=3822 2015 Hurricane Season off to an early start with Subtropical Storm Ana.

Yes there is a Tropical Storm. No we won’t get surf from it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the storm is moving away from us and not large enough nor far enough away from the states into the Atlantic to make any considerable tropical swell. We might get some waist high glassy NW lines creeping in over the weekend at some point, but there won’t be anything major. At least we’re seeing some tropical action early.

Long period NE swell is the real story.

The north side of Puerto Rico should be going off every morning this coming week with a beautiful long period NE swell. It might start to fill in tomorrow. The winds aren’t forecast to be too strong in the mornings which should make for glassy and head high conditions several days in a row. The angle is just not right for Rincon. We might continue to see some knee to waist high days at the spots closest to the tip of Rincon, but it will be mushy and crowded. explore the countless possibilities of the northern coast of Puerto Rico if you want to surf good waves with not a lot of people. It can be like a vacation while living in the land of vacation.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – April 12, 2015 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-april-12-2015/ Sun, 12 Apr 2015 22:54:44 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=3505 Kai the surfer hichhiking hero

Hitch a ride up north if you want to surf this week.

Rincon will stay small to flat all week with a small surf lesson wave and offshore/sideshore winds. Great week to make sure you’re caught up on work. The north side of the island will have head high and bigger waves just about every day of the work week, but the wind is going to crank. The sunrise session should still offer some semi-clean conditions at the most exposed breaks up there, but as early as 8:00am it may start to chop out and be garbage by 10:00am.

New swell currently forecast for next weekend!

Remember when I said to get your work done during the week? Well we might see some head high and bigger conditions with offshore winds next weekend right here in Rincon. I’ve eye-balling the North Atlantic a lot lately and knew at some point a long period NE swell was in the making. Now the models are finally starting to pick up on it too. It makes sense for this time of year. I hope it works out.

November 2014 Surf Outlook https://rinconsurfreport.com/rincon-surf-blog/general/november-2014-surf-outlook/ Tue, 11 Nov 2014 18:57:40 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=1432 November Swell Possibility - Surfing Puerto Rico

November might have one more big swell to surf.

For the most part, we’re going to get nothing from the flurry of cold-fronts that will be sweeping across the United States. Even though the US will be getting Winter in full effect, we remain warm and calm down here in Puerto Rico. At least the nights will start cooling down though. Almost all of the storms are forecast to push out and away from our swell window on model runs. The trends in the model runs have been consistent on this each run. But one storm is the wild-card. The main image above depicts would could take place on the 23rd of this month. If that does happen, we could be looking at a nice N to NNE swell with a decent period around that time. That far out anything can happen, either it can deepen even more and pump out a massive swell and waves for a week or it can follow the same pattern as every other storm and give us nothing but weak background swell. I personally don’t see it backing down. With all of the other storms avoiding our swell window, the models have been fairly consistently in putting a major dip in the jetstream again with a deepening storm around this time period. So I’m pretty sure November will get another big swell towards the end of the month. The bad news is that we probably won’t see much surf here in Rincon until that happens. Isabela and Aguadilla should be fun though on several of the days it’s flat here. Just make sure and mind your manners, the crowds could get heavy.
