NW swell forecast for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

We’re finally going to see some NW fetch setup behind this next cold-front. Though the front itself might not dip out as far as I would like into the Atlantic, we at least will have a good gradient and push behind the frontal boundary. We should remain with fun little background swell over the next couple of days. Friday the NW pulse should show up early and last through the weekend. If the front tracks out just a little bit more we could see a full week of waves from this weather system. On a classic cold-front setup we get a couple of days of NW swell, a couple days of N swell, and several days of NE swell as the swell event fades out. If all goes well, we should see that happen over the next week or so. Don’t expect huge surf, but we should be a couple of feet overhead on sets on Friday and Saturday. Have fun, stay safe.

More surf on the way for Rincon, Puerto Rico!

You don’t have to be an expert to realize in the chart above that the forecast is calling for a considerable jump in the surf showing up on Sunday. We’ve had really fun waves the past week with some surprise pulses here and there, but we’re going to fade back to very small over the next couple of days until the Sunday swell gets here. The models have been pegging Sunday as the day in consecutive forecast runs so I’m fairly certain we will see a jump up on Sunday. Expect sets a few feet overhead and glassy conditions. The swell is going to be medium period. Judging by the weather creating the waves, we’ll probably see several waves in each set and short wait times in between sets. I hope the surf sticks around a few days into next week but we’ll have to just wait and see.

Rincon stuck in the same pattern of smaller surf.

Unfortunately, I was correct in my previous forecast and it looks like the November pattern of up and over cold-fronts will persist. We should continue to see small long period pulses show up from the back sides of the endless storms that are giving Europe nonstop massive swells. Seems we won’t see a change in the jetstream until the New Year (possibly the spring). There will still be plenty of surfing opportunites, just don’t expect any waves with size for quite some time. Rincon should continue with small learner waves in the knee to waist high range over the next 10 days with random pulses a little bit bigger at random. The north side of the island should see some head high surf tomorrow with the passing of a Tropical Wave. The winds could possibly be light offshore as well.
