tropical swell – Rincon Surf Report and Wave Forecast for Puerto Rico – Surfing Puerto Rico https://rinconsurfreport.com Tue, 07 Nov 2017 17:08:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.4 Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Nov 7, 2017 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-nov-7-2017/ Tue, 07 Nov 2017 17:08:43 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=13918 plenty of weather, but not a lot of surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

Plenty of weather, not a lot of surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

Though the weather maps stay active, high pressure keeps guarding our swell window for the most part. Tropical Storm Rina won’t really serve to make much swell and will drift off into oblivion. The weak cold-fronts can’t get a good fetch going. The storms in the far reaches of the North Atlantic are hugging Canada too much for long period NE swell to form. Our next shot at decent surf looks like a medium to weak front that should pull off the US with enough force to send some chest to head high cold-front swell at us with a scheduled arrival for Nov 13,2017. That far out, many things can change for the better or worse so now that I’m back in communication again (I hope), I should be able to update more often from here on out.

Continued Surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

There is no shortage of work to be done and keeping up with chores around the house is it’s own job, but if you’re about to lose your mind, go surf. There’s plenty of smaller scale surf in the ocean to cool off. We’ll have a passing tropical blob and south winds over the next few days so expect north facing beaches to be fun. Driving around still isn’t the best idea, but if you’re already on the north side of the island, you’ll see some head high surf with bigger sets. Rincon should be waist to chest high. I’m constantly reminded of how fortunate we are to be alive and how little is really necessary to stay alive, everything else is comfort. The simpler one can live the happier he/she will be right now. The island is bouncing back with many trees throwing out new leaves seemingly overnight somehow. Let’s all keep working together and grow back stronger and better than ever.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Sept 17, 2017 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-sept-17-2017/ Sun, 17 Sep 2017 10:58:08 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=13773 Destruction awaits Rincon, Puerto Rico from future Hurricane Maria.

Immanent destruction in Puerto Rico?

Here we go again. Because of the lower starting point of the storm I’m inclined to believe this forecast track. As the storm gets stronger over the next few days the tendency to move northward will be very likely. The kicker is that we will get decent waves from the North Atlantic weather that will steer Jose out, not to mention the swell from his movement and extra-tropical transition. However this same dynamic will put Maria on a collision course with Puerto Rico. We were extremely fortunate that Irma didn’t make direct contact when she passed. I’m not sure we’re going to be so fortunate with this one, but i sure hope so! Nonetheless “I hope it doesn’t hit us” is not a hurricane preparedness plan. Please get ready for the worst and stay safe.

Get ready to surf in Rincon, Puerto Rico!

We have a double down. The big storm will send us nice long period N and NE swell while the hurricane keeps the winds offshore for north facing beaches and dumps it’s own smaller scale N swell into the mix. Later in the forecast period some NNW swell might even show up on the beach. Long story short, get ready to surf a lot! I’m still seeing tomorrow through Friday as the biggest days but there should be plenty of leftovers through the weekend with a shot at another pulse early next week.

She kept far enough away so that the entire island wasn’t completely destroyed. Had she made landfall things would have been catastrophic. I didn’t really surf much during the event because it was time for me to be a responsible adult – i had a family and close friends to help and keep safe. I love them more than surfing. I did happen to have a very short session one morning and took some shots.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Sept 11, 2017 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-sept-11-2017/ Tue, 12 Sep 2017 01:33:34 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=13708 surfing hurricane jose in puerto rico

Hurricane Jose – more surf for Puerto Rico.

If Jose really does do that drunken merry-go-round then we should be hit with another solid batch of swell. The fading strength of the storm isn’t good though. Another drop in pressure would kick the swell up a notch, but it’s looking like conditions won’t really allow that. Therefore, the movement of the storm is what will govern the swell we get more than anything at this point. Once it moves downward and then stops we should see some long period swell show up within 12-24 hours. As of now Wednesday through Friday should be a few feet overhead and glassy at all north facing beaches. There are plenty of barrel spots that should be firing.

Good Surf Forecast for Rincon!

The weather changed things up a bit for the better. The same scenario i predicted is happening just a little more delayed and with a little more amplification. This means instead of a short window of swell we should have the entire weekend. The storm that couldn’t form got completely absorbed with the front and the front is going to setup beautifully over the Atlantic for an early dose of cold-front style swell. It’s not going to be huge, but I don’t think anyone is picky right now. Expect the swell to build a notch each day and max out on Saturday and fade out through Sunday. Monday will have some fun surf lesson leftovers here in Rincon. I’m expecting some head high fun on Saturday. Hope you got your dings fixed.

Waiting for surf in Rincon, Puerto Rico.

I think we’ll have a little mini-swell next week. As a weak front pulls off the states and sweeps that tropical blob along with it, I’m hoping we see some small scale north swell show up here in Rincon. We’ll probably see some waist to chest high surf at some point. From sat images I’d say within 4 days so that would be around Tuesday. I’m not anticipating more than a 12 hour run of swell for for the waist to chest high conditions but a smaller surf lesson wave can persist through to the end of the week. Tropics are not looking too exciting for surf in Puerto Rico.

Tropical Storm Gert – Surf for Rincon?

I sure hope so! However, there is a reason why I chose the current wind field as the main image of this post. The wind field is pathetic and the pressure is also not very low. We need more wind, lower pressure, and a more symmetrical storm to get any decent surf. Here’s the deal, Gert should be in a favorable environment over the next day and a half. Because Tropical Storm Gert is sitting in an ideal location of our swell window, if the storm does blow up we’ll be surfing here in Rincon for a few days with very good conditions. We have hope! Let’s all start chanting together now – GERT! GERT! GERT! GERT!
