After a terrible flatspell, there is hope for surfing Puerto Rico.

We will continue to stay small to flat for the next few days, but we finally have some hope on the horizon. This flatspell during prime season has been rough and depressing. Hopefully all of that comes to an end on on the 7th of January, 2016. This coming Thursday should see something. The possible swell has been pegged consistently on model runs and if the trough can get it’s predicted swoop out in the Atlantic as planned, we should see some fun head high surf and decent conditions. Small to flat conditions will persist until then. Let’s wait and see.

Rincon Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Dec 17, 2015 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-dec-17-2015/ Fri, 18 Dec 2015 02:16:30 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=5935 weekend update for surfing puerto rico

Weekend Update – Surf is on the way!

Tomorrow morning will be flat. The models are calling for the swell to arrive on Saturday. Buoy data has me hoping that we might see some swell creep in tomorrow afternoon, but more than likely we won’t see it until Saturday. The swell event looks to last from Saturday through the coming Monday with smaller and windy conditions persisting through most of next week. The biggest day will probably be Sunday. The winds are currently forecast to be light on Sunday as well. This means just about every Rincon spot should be going off with head high glass and bigger sets into the 3ft overhead range. The angle is most likely going to have some NNE tilt in it which can make for some long rides if the period can stay above 12 seconds. We’ll have to wait and see. It’s good to see the end of December lining up to have more surf. Overall, this has been a pretty slow December wave-wise. Have fun out there, don’t get in fights, pick a less crowded spot, and surf your brains out!

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Dec 4, 2015 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-dec-4-2015/ Fri, 04 Dec 2015 12:58:23 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=5776 Rincon gets skunked

December is looking like a skunk month.

I have been procrastinating on writing this forecast mainly because i do not like it. All of the long range models are putting the current and future cold-fronts on a path that avoids our swell window to a large degree only to amplify them in the far Northern Atlantic and dump endless swell at Europe. This has been a pattern very common to the last couple of seasons so I’m inclined to believe that the forecasts are going to come true.

No waves in December? Really?

We should still see some waist to chest high days here and there, but for the most part no big swells are showing up on the models. I think a realistic hope is that some of the higher latitude storms get so big and strong that we get some long period NE swell which could make for some really fun days. Just make sure you don’t surf a crowded spot on those good days because long period NE swells tend to have a lot of lulls and long waits in between sets.

Short term forecast:

We stay small for the next 10 days. The conditions will be perfect for beginners, non-picky/high-stoke longboarders, and surf lessons. For everyone else, go fishing or diving! There has been so many schools of various fish running right now. Get some!

Plenty of surf on the way!

We’ll stay small and weak until Sunday, but on Sunday we should see the new swell come in. Look for head high conditions in the morning with a slight build through the day into the 2ft overhead range with glassy conditions for the west facing beaches. There shouldn’t be excessive amounts of wobble in the surf and the angle will be mainly from the NNE. A lot of spots should be super fun. After Sunday, the surf is currently forecast to stick around for pretty much the entire work week. Have fun!

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Oct 20, 2015 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-oct-20-2015/ Tue, 20 Oct 2015 15:01:51 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=5150 Doing the happy dance - surf is on the way!

Everyone is doing the happy dance! Surf is on the way!

The models have been calling for it, it’s showing up on the live buoy data, satellite imagery shows the wave generating coldfront in prime position, and it’s all coming together nicely! We should see the new swell show up tomorrow. Expect head high to overhead surf with decent conditions and no wind. There might be some wobble in it at first since the period isn’t too terribly long, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be good. The wind is still forecast to remain light through the weekend. The big swell for the weekend is no longer happening. This swell event will most likely go like this:

Wednesday – Swell shows up in the head high range with sets 2-3ft overhead.
Thursday – Swell still solid with head high to 2ft overhead surf.
Friday – Fading chest to head high surf.
Saturday – Waist to chest.
Sunday – Knee to Waist.

Of course, different spots will see different conditions, but for the most part the wind will be favorable for just about everywhere. Find a nice quiet beach and surf your brains out. Some spots may see bigger/smaller size but there should be plenty of surf to have fun.
