More surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

Though nothing on the weather maps jumps out as anything major right now, the weather we have is sufficient to make some smaller scale surf for this week. Look for a bit of a pulse up in the surf tomorrow with some chest high surf at most breaks with bigger sets. After that we’ll have a lot of wind so the resulting swell will be very short period. I expect smaller and mushy conditions are the spots protected enough from the wind to be clean. It should still be surfable though. The weekend has been looking good on the models for the past few runs. Right now they look like the clean-up days after the wind fest. Looking at the next cold front sweeping the states, only a slight shift south in the track of the front and northern jet-stream could mean a major swell event in the long range forecast so that’s what I will be watching for. All in all this past October has been a great month for surfing Puerto Rico and November is looking to be fairly decent as well. I will try to update the forecast more often from here on out.

Rincon Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Friday, Oct 21, 2016 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-friday-oct-21-2016/ Fri, 21 Oct 2016 20:09:40 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=9924 More surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

Once all of that mess gets worked out we’ll have surf again in Rincon.

The cold front is forecast to combine all of the random low pressures out there and push out to sea. High pressure should build in behind it and boom, your standard run of the mill weak coldfront swell. The models are currently calling for a slight NW angle on the surf that will roll into Rincon so the surf should be fun. For the weekend we will stay flat as a lake. Yes, we really can go from double overhead barrels to flat in one day. Granted, the coming cold front swell won’t be as epic as the long period Nicole swell. The surf should still be plenty of fun and offer some overhead surf. The swell should be here by mid-next week.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – May 27, 2016 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-may-27-2016/ Sat, 28 May 2016 01:22:53 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=8169 Tropical Depression Two Might Give Rincon Some Surf!

Tropical Depression Two Might Give Rincon Surf!

Don’t everyone look at once, but we have a tropical depression out in the Atlantic. I said don’t everyone look at once! We don’t want to scare it away. Now I know she ain’t much to look at right now, but there’s a closed circulation in there somewhere. If the current forecast sticks, we should see TD Two form into a Tropical Storm tomorrow. If the west side of the storm can get it’s act together we have a shot at some NW swell late in the forecast period. The current path moves the storm away from us and the steering currents responsible for that should at least put some Easterly swell on the beaches up in Isabela. The southerly surface winds form the storm should keep it glassy up there and at all North facing beaches. I don’t think we’ll have much in Rincon this weekend but a little bump in the knee high range will probably stick around. Early next week into mid-week is when we get a better shot at decent surf depending on what happens over the weekend. I’m keeping close tabs on this one. I want some tropical swell!

It’s going to be one of those summers.

Nothing but scraps from out in the North Atlantic for surfing Rincon, Puerto Rico. We look to stay completely flat for the rest of the month. We can hope for some phantom bumps here and there, but don’t expect any actual swell. I’ll try to keep up with the report so that you can know if one of those phantom background swells shows up. With all of this heat we can start to hope for an active Tropical Season. Let’s all hope for plenty of storm swell and no destruction. Big storms that just sit out at sea create some of the best swells ever to hit our coasts.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – May 6, 2016 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/8033/ Fri, 06 May 2016 21:48:00 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=8033 No surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

No surf for Rincon, Puerto Rico.

The glimmer of hope that we had is now gone. All of the wind and resulting waves are pointed away from us. I was hoping the late season Low Pressure system would pull out further with stronger winds behind it. Unfortunately, the strongest winds and interaction with the giant high pressure over the Atlantic is going to pump all of the winds away from us. This means we’re going to have strong south winds and REALLY HOT weather over the next few days. We will have no surf here. Hopefully Isabela will offer some rideable surf and stay glassy with all this south wind.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – May 2, 2016 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-may-2-2016/ Tue, 03 May 2016 00:43:24 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=7993 Semi-Active weather pattern with minimal surf for Puerto Rico.

Semi-Active weather pattern should keep background swell coming, but nothing major.

The forecast is looking like the surf will stay small to minimal for this week and weekend. Nothing major is forecast to show up on the beaches here in Rincon. However, the north coast of the island should be decent with some waist to chest high surf and glassy conditions in the mornings. The winds are looking to stay light this entire time. Rincon will most likely be surf lesson dream waves all week with little knee high peelers and occasionally bigger longboard lines.

Hope in the distance: Next week.

The weather is too active to count on a flat spell lasting more than a week and a half. Which makes me inclined to believe what a lot of the models are starting to show for the 9th and 10th (next Monday/Tuesday). We should see some chest high glassy waves on those days. I’ll try and update again mid-week to see if it’s coming together.

Rincon, Puerto Rico Surf Forecast – Mar 25, 2016 https://rinconsurfreport.com/surf-forecast/rincon-puerto-rico-surf-forecast-mar-25-2016/ Fri, 25 Mar 2016 17:37:29 +0000 http://rinconsurfreport.com/?p=7409 Puerto Rico Surf Forecast.

It’s not looking good – no surf for Rincon.

The forecast is simple – we will stay flat for the next 10 days. But I guess I owe it to everyone to at least explain why. Looking at the weather chart above, if all the of the H’s were L’s and all the L’s were H’s we would have the biggest and best swell of all time. Unfortunately, that’s the opposite of what we have now. All of the fetch over the Atlantic pushes waves away from Rincon, not towards it. Wind around a high pressure system spins clockwise and wind around low pressure systems spins counterclockwise. There is a weak front trying to push off the states that might make a waist high background swell at some point, but that is about it.

Where can you find waves?

Spain and Portugal will be on fire next week. Can’t go over there? If you’re spring break is starting to look broken, don’t worry. The north coast of the island should have a decent supply of wind swell the remainder of the month. Mornings can offer at least a semi-clean wave and there is enough coastline to avoid extreme crowds if you’re willing to surf a sloppier wave. Easterly wind swell limits your options though and you will need to find a spot that is very exposed to have any size in the surf.
